Sevierville's Bloomin' BBQ May 16 & 17
Two Days of Music, Food & Fun
Sevierville, TN - Sevierville’s fourth annual Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass will take place May 16-17, 2008. This family-friendly event will once again bring barbeque cook teams from all over the United States to Sevierville as they compete for $20,000 in cash and prizes and the title of Tennessee State Champion. Rounding out the event is toe-tapping bluegrass music, incredible arts and crafts, kids’ games and the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition honoring Sevierville’s favorite hometown girl, Dolly Parton. With so many exciting things to see and do, this event is one you’ll want to attend!
Friday night (May 16), take a little time to visit with the barbeque cook teams you’ve seen on cable channels like the Food Network as you stroll through the “Que Zone.” Championship barbeque tastes best when eaten in a comfortable place with great music, so have a seat in the Eating Tent, which will feature a variety of shows throughout the event. Then make sure you bring a lawn chair or blanket for the free bluegrass concerts with rising stars like Cadillac Sky and Bradley Walker and well known legends Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time and Marty Stuart.
Saturday morning (May 17), start the day early with the Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union Kids' Que where children ages 6-12 cook chicken to win cash and trophies. Then stay to watch as championship cook teams turn in their competition meats and then stay for the announcement of winners at 4pm. During the competition the teams will cook an estimated 2,832 pounds of meat including 20 pounds of pulled pork, 24 pounds of brisket, 5 pounds of chicken and 10 pounds of ribs each. Winning teams will receive recognition in Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket as well as specialty categories like “Anything Bush Beans”, “Anything Wampler’s Farm Sausage”, Sauce and Dessert.
An expanded Kids’ Zone and the Bluegrass Music Tent, sponsored in part by The Music Outlet, add fun and enrichment for the kids and families who attend Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass. The Kids’ Zone includes attractions like climbing walls, bounce houses and old-time toys while the Bluegrass Music Tent gives kids (and kids at heart) the chance to touch and play bluegrass instruments such as banjos, fiddles and more (don’t worry, instructors will be on site to help). Both of these attractions will be open until 9pm each day of the event.
Admission and concerts are free. For more information about Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass, call (888) 889-7415 or visit us online at www.BloominBBQ.com.

Singing Dolly's Songs
4th Annual Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Accepts Entries
SEVIERVILLE’S 4TH ANNUAL MOUNTAIN SOUL VOCAL COMPETITION SEEKS COMPETITORS SINGING DOLLY PARTON TUNES
Sevierville (TN) – The 4th Annual Mountain Soul Vocal Competition honors the songwriting of Sevierville’s favorite daughter, Dolly Parton, and is hosted by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce. During this competition, contestants must sing a song written by Dolly Parton in the style of his or her own choosing (country, rock, rap, bluegrass, etc.). Contestants may enter in the 13 and up age division or the 12 and under division for this competition.
“Since Dolly Parton is from Sevierville, holding a competition that honors her amazing and prolific songwriting was a natural fit for us,” says Chamber Marketing Coordinator and event organizer Amanda Maples Marr. “People from all parts of the US love this competition. We’ve had past entries from as far away as California and our past winners have been from Maryland and Virginia.” As far as event organizers know, this is the only vocal competition in the world that specifically honors the songwriting of Dolly Parton.
Audition tapes, sent by mail, will be judged by a panel of entertainment professionals who will identify 20 finalists in the 13 and up age division and 10 finalists in the 12 and under category. Those finalists will then perform during the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Finals at Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The finals will be held at the Sevier County Courthouse near the bronze statue of Dolly Parton. For ages 13 and up, first prize includes $500 prize money, a Nashville recording session and a guitar autographed by Dolly Parton, second prize is $300 and third prize is $200. For ages 12 and under, first prize is $100, 2 season passes to Dollywood and a guitar autographed by Dolly Parton, second is $50 and two day passes to Dollywood and third is $25 and two day passes to Dollywood.
While contestants may sing any song written by Dolly Parton, there is one exception. Contestants may not sing I will Always Love You. For a complete list of Dolly’s songs, competitors – and those that are interested – should visit http://www.dollymania.net/songwriter.html. It is not necessary, nor is it encouraged to impersonate Dolly Parton, either physically or vocally.
Interested vocalists may obtain an application online at www.BloominBBQ.com or by calling the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce at 1-888-889-7415. Return the application and entry fee (ages 13+ $10; ages 12 and under $5) along with an audition tape, cd, vhs or dvd of the contestant singing a song written by Dolly Parton in the style of his or her own choosing to the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce. Entries must be postmarked by April 10, 2008.
The Mountain Soul Vocal Competition is part of Sevierville’s Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass event May 16-17, 2008. For more information about the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition or Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass, visit www.BloominBBQ.com.

Dolly Parton Appears on American Idol
Sing Dolly songs in Sevierville
Sevierville (TN) – For the past four years, Dolly Parton’s hometown of Sevierville, TN, has honored the music legend’s songwriting with the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition. This year, American Idol will also highlight Dolly’s contribution to music on the April 1st and 2nd broadcasts. During the April 1 show, contestants will sing a song written by Dolly and on the April 2 elimination show she will perform a song from her new album Backwoods Barbie.
While only the nine remaining finalists on American Idol will have the opportunity to put their spin on Dolly’s songs during those broadcasts, The 4th Annual Mountain Soul Vocal Competition gives all vocalists a unique opportunity to sing Dolly’s songs in their own style (country, rock, rap, bluegrass, etc.) for cash and prizes including a recording session in Nashville and guitars autographed by Dolly. Contestants may enter in the 13 and up age division or the 12 and under division for this competition and originality is encouraged. The deadline for entry in The Mountain Soul Vocal Competition is APRIL 11.
“In the past three years, we have really seen some unique takes on Dolly Parton’s songs, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for,” says event coordinator Amanda Marr. “One contestant from California had a real Doors vibe and sang ‘Bargain Store’. It was very unique and really emphasized how versatile Dolly’s songs are.”
Although the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition has successfully drawn contestants from across the United States since it began, organizers hope that American Idol’s focus on Dolly Parton’s songwriting will help generate even more interest in The Mountain Soul Vocal Competition.
To enter, contestants should send an audition tape, which will be judged by a panel of entertainment professionals to identify 30 finalists (20 in the 13+ category and 10 in the 12 and under category). Those finalists will then perform during the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Finals at Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The finals will be held at the Sevier County Courthouse beside the bronze statue of Dolly Parton.
Contestants may download an application at www.BloominBBQ.com or receive one by calling 1-888-889-7415
